The Problem
Non-Revenue Water (NRW) is the difference between the input volume of water into a distribution system and the volume of water billed to consumers and, is one of the major factors affecting Public and Private Utilities today. High levels of NRW through leaks, illegal or unmetered connections, inaccurate billing systems, drastically affect the water utilities financial viability through lost revenues and increased operational costs. In South Africa, the Water Research Council estimates the cost of water losses to be R7.2 billion per annum.
